1 x 10lb or larger smoked half ham, spiral sliced or not, it doesn't matter which. 1 can pineapple chunks, with juice 20 +/- whole cloves 2/3 cup brown sugar 2/3 cup local honey ground cinnamon ground ginger ground cloves
Place your ham in a large and deep pan, cut side down. Stud it with the cloves, placing them 1-2 inches apart all over the surface of the ham from top to bottom. Top with the brown sugar, packing it as firmly onto the sides as possible, sprinkle with a dash or two of each of the seasonings, then pour the honey overtop that, drizzling it so that it reaches all sides as evenly as possible. Add the pineapple chunks to the pan, drizzling a few spoons of the pineapple juice over the top of the ham, then pour the rest of the juice into the pan.
Bake at 325f for 10 minutes per pound to heat the ham through. The sugars will combine with the pineapple juice and the natural juices of the ham to create a yummy glaze, carmelizing slightly on the top of the ham.
Remove chunks off the bone, following the natural separations in the meat, then slice across the grain for some of the most tender, flavorful ham you've ever had!
Caution: highly addictive, there's no going back to canned ham after this!! :P
Variation: add a can of Knorr's Apricot nectar to the pan, spooning a little over the ham before cooking.
Variation 2: add 3/4 cup maraschino cherries to the pan in addition to the pineapple, along with a few spoonfuls of their syrup, for a slightly sweeter cooking liquid and a little more color in your pan.
